Burned Out?

A comeback story no one talks about.

Hey there, Joyce here 👋

Have you ever needed to take a career break, so bad? or is it just me

We’re told to “push through” in medicine.
Rest is for the weak, right?
Wrong.

I did something radical, Instead of pushing through (like we're trained to do).

❗️I stopped.

For 12 weeks, I stepped back from clinical practice.

After giving so much of myself to the work…
I hit a wall.
Mentally, emotionally, spiritually—I was done.

This week, I’m coming back after a break — clearer, calmer, and with a sharper vision of what I want next. And I’ve realized:

Your career doesnt end because you took a pause. Sometimes, it starts there

It reminded me of a powerful post from Dr. Daanish that you need to see 👇
🔗 “I’m sick of the negativity — medicine is still worth it”

This isn’t about glamorizing burnout or glorifying the “comeback.” It’s about permission to breathe.
To pivot.
To rediscover your “why.”
And then?
Return with purpose.

If you’re looking to restart your career in healthcare, here are 3 practical steps that helped me (and others in my network):

1️⃣ Reframe your break.
Don’t hide it—highlight what it taught you. Growth is a strength.

2️⃣ Refresh your professional presence.
Update your CV and LinkedIn. Focus on impact, not just job titles.

3️⃣ Reconnect with your network.
Let people know you’re back and open to opportunities. Be specific.

🧬 FROM ONE MEDIC TO ANOTHER

Let’s get real:

You are not lazy for stepping back.
You are not lost for pivoting.
And you are not behind. You are building different.

So if you’re in your "pause era"...
Welcome. You’re not alone.

And when you're ready to return, do it on your terms.

💛 Forward this to a medic who needs this nudge.

Till next week,
Joyce.
