From Doctor to Founder
An ambitious medic roundup- HealthTech Startups, Doing more than medicine, Job opportunitiesđ°đ°
Hey there, Joyce here,
Welcome to this week's HealthLista Letter. We'll talk about HealthTechStartups that stuck out to me this week, More than Medicine (brief mentorship session), Health Events, and Who is recruiting in the health tech industry.
âSTARTUP SPOTLIGHT
Consider a time when you were left to babysit alone and the baby remained calm for the first few seconds but became a ruckus for the following several hours.
The truth is that no one understands trying out solutions in the same manner that someone touched by an issue may be willing to try.
I can definitely empathise because I currently have 11 nieces and nephews and carried each one as a baby. Things are not always pleasant.
No cry is as loud as a baby's tears, especially when you have no idea what is at the root because you only try different things to see what helps. During the week a particular startup stood out to me Nanni AI
Nanni AI, a mobile health-tech application that enables parents to translate their babyâs cries using AI, allows them to track their habits such as sleep, diapers and feeding and to log their development milestones
đMORE THAN MEDICINE
A mini-mentorship session with Medical professionals who have achieved success in either non-clinical, clinical, or both.

Dr Yosi Anderson is the founder of Preloved therapy, a startup for Blending Secondhand fashion and mental health to fight fashion waste and empower African Women. She is also a Ex-NHS doctor and psychiatrist.
1. Can you describe your current career path and how your medical background has been valuable?
I'm the founder of Preloved Therapy, an edtech and media startup blending secondhand fashion and clothing psychology to fight fashion waste and empower African women. Being a Doctor with a background in Psychiatry has been invaluable, especially in understanding the psychological impacts of clothing on mood and confidence. But there are also soft skills that shouldnât be overlooked like communication, empathy, adaptability, problem-solving, leadership, time management, teamwork, and attention to detailâall of which are very important for entrepreneurs.
2. What steps did you take to transition from an idea to actually launching a startup?
First, I found a career coach to explore my options beyond medicine. Then, I went through an exploration phase to understand my skills, interests, values, and personality. Thatâs where the idea was born. Next, there was market research to validate the idea, developing a business plan and strategy, exploring different products and services, understanding and putting all the legal rows and cogs in order, and finally launching the startup. But of course, everything never went as smoothly as this paragraph.đ
3. Whatâs one non-negotiable for your mental health?
Sleep!
I didnât understand how important it was until I became a mum. When I donât get enough sleep I feel more stressed and anxious. Sleep keeps me sharp, creative, and ready to make better decisions. So itâs always a priority.
4. What advice would you give to other young women considering unconventional paths?
Find Your Why.
Know what gets you fired up to work every day and use it as your compass. Then trust your gut and pursue what genuinely interests you, even if it seems unconventional. Embrace your unique path, learn continuously, and don't be afraid to stand out or go against the grain. The most fulfilling careers often come from following your passions, no matter how unconventional they may appear.
